Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor was released in September of 2014 which brought the Lord of the Rings franchise to the next gen consoles and was a fantastic edition to the repertoire of Monolith productions who had developed the two original F.E.A.R games and the original Condemned from 2009. Well it looks like the success of Shadow of Mordor was realized by Monolith and Warner Bros. as a sequel, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, was confirmed just yesterday following a leak from the company.
Details are light at this stage but here is the official plot line for Shadow of War:
“In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, players wield a new Ring of Power and confront the deadliest of enemies, including Sauron and his Nazgul, in a monumental battle for Middle-earth. The open-world action-adventure game is brought to life through the expansion of the award-winning Nemesis System. The robust personalization from the first game is now applied to the entire world where the environments and characters are all shaped by player actions and decisions, creating a personal world unique to every gameplay experience.”
Shadow of Mordor introduced a new gameplay feature, the “nemesis system”, designed to personalize the experience for each player. ‘Boss type’ enemies would remember each encounter with the player and the structure of the high command of Orcs would be shaped by the player’s actions. Shadow of War promises that these features will return and be expanded upon with the updated nemesis system that now includes followers which are said to create new stories of loyalty, betrayal, and revenge.
Monolith is promising a richer, more expansive, and personalized world in Shadow of War which launches on August 25, 2017.
